If you want to get rid of the hustle bustle of city busy
life and looking for a quiet, peaceful, relaxed holiday , wants to
be close to nature than Kettle Valley Home Stay is a ideal place
for you. It is the family home of the Chhettri family. Located 10
km away from Kurseong town, far from the madding crowd, on the way
to Darjeeling a place call ‘Dilaram”, it’s a 2 minutes’ walk from
the motorable road.
The family has converted two rooms into comfortable guest rooms with western style toilets in a rural ambiance, with private balcony facing the Kurseong town and the far pristine hills, Sandhaphu, Mirik, and adjacent areas. During winter one can sees snow in these hills. The place is surrounded by virgin green forest of Magnolia, Chestnut with cardamom plantation.
Guests are offered excellent service provided by caring hosts, home cooked simple MOM’S meals served in family heirloom brass utensils, all meals prepared from freshly grown organic vegetables from the home stay garden and nearby fields. An ideal place for a lifestyle exploration and cultural exchange.
Activities:
Village walk cum Nature walk- There are number of trails around Kettle Valley where you get to experience the rich and diverse vegetation. The Home stay has its own private green lush forest of Magnolia, Chestnut with cardamom plantation, where one can take a private forest walk or do bird watching. Take a village walk and see the daily activities of the rural life or partake in the same. The place is surrounded by tea garden; one can take a tea garden tour and see the processing during the season or give a hand during plucking season. One can also see the unique cultivation practises and varied range of crops planted by the farmers of villages.
For the more adventurous a full day trek can be done to Chatakpur View point. The trek passes through huge Cryptomere forest and small hamlets. Trekkers get to experience the varying vegetation as the elevation changes. The view from the view point is great, you can see the might Mt. Kanchandzonga and its adjacent ranges, the valleys & hills of Sikkim and greenery all over.
Village Life- A typical day in a local’s life involves getting up at the crack of dawn to the milk the cow, feed the animals, tend to the fields and pick fresh vegetables to prepare for meals. Villagers realise that partaking in these activities is a novelty for most visitors.
Bhanzang Salamander Lake - it is the main attraction of this area, located around 10km from kettle valley by car or hike around 2 hrs. It is a beautiful green-tingled lake that shelters the rarest and most endangered species of salamanders - a species under threat of extinction. This lake is one of the few places in the world where you can now find these species. In the past, it used to be a favourite place for the Britisher for boating and people from the neighbouring town used to hang out here frequently.
Learning local gorkha cuisines- The home stay serves various gorkha local cuisines; guests are invited to learn to prepare the delicious local cuisines at kitchen of the home stay. The guest also can in return teach their local cuisines, can be a great fun.
Sightseeing tours- Darjeeling is around 25 km and Kurseong is around 10 km from Kettle Valley, so one can visit these places and do local sightseeing and return back. The tour can be suitably customized to your needs and generally will be a full day tour.
